I'm still here!

Argg! I am still here and still sewing, but I'm also still trying to figure out flickr! I am definitely not a computer whiz... So I need to get my oldest daughter to come and help me figure flickr out. Or if anyone has some tips for me? I do understand about joining, but how to get your pictures uploaded to flickr and how to get them from there to here! Oh boy...
Anyway I do check up on everyone's blogs even though I haven't posted myself. I am still working on my Christmas sewing- 2 pjs done, one to go. Then I have tote bags to make. Today the grandkiddies are coming over to work on a Christmas surprise for their Mom. Should be fun! I hope you all have a great week.

I need some help!

My blog won't allow me to post any pictures!!! It says my 1 free GB is used up and I have to purchase more. Is that true? Or is there a way for me to get around that? Any help would be appreciated!
I HAVE been working on projects and even have pictures :(
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!

WIP Wednesday

I've been busy, but not too much quilting done (sigh...) Here's what I've been working on:
Pj's for my grandkiddies- these are for Connor and almost done! The pink to the left is the start of the pjs for my oldest BreeAnn.

And this is a baby blanket for a friend's baby due in January- not as far along as I'd like, but...
I bet you all are busy too- have a great week!

Finished Friday

Hey all! I did get a couple of things finished this week(finally!)
This is a bib I made for a baby shower this weekend. The owl design is mine, but the actual bib isa pattern. I really like how it turned out!
This is a prayer/comfort shawl I made for a friend who recently lost a grandbaby before it was born... very sad,but I hope this will be a comfort to her.
Everything is still slow going for me. I have worked on my Oct calendar quilt and the veteran's quilt, but they're still not finished...slow and steady I guess :)

WIP Wednesday

Here are a few of the projects I'm working on this week:
This is a scrap block I tried from a pattern I got from our quilt show. I just grabbed some scraps and put it together- don't really like the yellow triangles... And this takes a lot longer than other patterns I've tried. Oh well...

I've also contine to try to organize my fabric to make it more user friendly- like being able to actually find things! This is my fat quarter cupboard. Looks neat yeah?

And this is some of the hand quilting I've gotten done on my veteran's quilt. Boy am I slow! It's still not finished, but I do have a ton of other projects that have deadlines, like crocheted baby blankets, prayer shawls, knitted booties, etc. Busy is the word of the week!!!

I thought I'd show how my Laurel Burch looks finished and hung:
It actually fit perfectly on a shelf I've had for years! That was exciting :) The stuffed animals on top are ones my kids and grandkiddies have given me over the years- special to my heart.
I have been sewing and working in my sewing room, just no new pictures yet...
Have a great Monday!

WIP Wednesday

Okay, here's a .project I started in the 70's! This qualifies as my very first quilt.
One year, when I was in high school, I cut out all these squares from fabric leftover from clothes my Mom had made me or that I had made myself and gave the squares as a Christmas gift to my folks. Of course the plan was to make them into a quilt... Fast forward about 10 years or so, I am married and find these squares and decide to make the quilt- I have no idea what I'm doing so I just slapped them together. It makes me laugh to see how I didn't think about colors together, some of the same colors are touching, the embroidered squares aren't even centered! I found this again (still unfinished...) when I was cleaning out my sewing area. Time to try to get this done! Or maybe next year...? Here is a close of of one of the embroidered squares:
It's funny, but I can remember almost all the clothes that were made from these fabrics. The upper right is from my high school graduation dress.
Another project I'm working on is an apron for our Awana carnival- it's called" pick a pocket".
You put prizes in the different pockets and they get to choose. FUN!
In the blank looking place are blue pockets that I will stencil question marks on. Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday- what are you working on?

Fall

I don't have any sewing to post and I'm sorry it's been so long...Life is kind of out of balance right now. I will have something to show on WIP Wednesday though.
Here are some fall colors aroung my area:

These are in my yard. This year they are just yellow because we haven't had much rain. Some years they are orange, green and red! I love it!
These are from around town- I love the colors!
Well, that's all for now. I hope these colors inspire you!
Have a great day!

WIP Wednesday

I have been very busy getting ready for another yard sale. We are doing a MAJOR down -sizing because we may have to move to a smaller place. So not too much sewing going on since my sewing area is a mess! But I have beeb working on sorting my scraps for future scrap quilts. I'm taking my scraps from this:
to this:
I'v read a lot of books on how to store your scraps so I've combined many methods. I sort by color into plastic shoes boxes or small, clear tubs. Then I ironed all the scraps from one tub. Next I laid them out and straightened up the edges. Then I try to cut the largest shape I can- sometimes it's a 5" strip or just a 5" square. I don't save smaller that a 1 1/2"  strip. I do try to cut squares or strips in sizes that are commonly used in quilting. It sounds like a big job, but I'm only doing a box a day. Once I catch up I'm going to try to keep up by cutting the scraps up after every project. I do a lot of clothing sewing so I have odd shaped scraps from that too. We'll see how I do, but I think it will really help me use my scraps up more quickly. So how do you deal with your scraps? Do you have a great method you could share?  Have a great day!

Finished Friday!

I haven't got too much work done on quilts, but I did finish 2 more tshirt dresses for my granddaughter:
She wanted me to put a zebra on the front of this one, but it was too busy.

This one has oriental bunnies on it so I fussy cut a heart for the tshirt.
This is BreeAnn's Grammy(me)  and her. So she can remember that her Grammy loves her very much.

WIP Wednesday

Here is my October calendar quilt with all the pieces fused in place:
I changed the placement of the eyes from the pattern- I like a little more whimsical look. And I didn't realize howmuch of the middle background the pumpkin covered!! I would have changed the placement of different fabrics if I'd thought of it...oh well. I still like it. Now I need to sew on all the different parts. Hopefull I have  the right color of orange for the pumpkin. I'm linking up with freshlypieced.blogspot.com

October calendar started

I'm excited to have started on my October calendar quilt! I got the background all sewn together:
All these fabrics are from my stash. Then I traced and fused some of the pieces:
I'm not really into Hallowe'en, but I do love pumpkins in the Fall! This just a start of the fusing= there's a cute pumpkin for the middle. So I'm just working on the fusing now and then I'll need to sew it all down. I still have 21 days to finish, right?!

Quilt show

Here are a few of the quilts in our quilt show:

These are just a few of our featured quilter, Gayle Hunt's quilts. She does beautiful work and is the sweetest person. She calls herself the "scrap queen" and makes most of her quilts from scraps. She handed out some free packets with scraps and a pattern for a cool block to try!
Here is one of my quilts- so exciting! And I love the quilt next to it- it's called an "S" block- I think I need to try that too!
Here are some of the small quilts. They said we had over 200 quilts entered! It was definitely packed.
We also had 5 vendors- 4 from quilt shops and one is my friend Bobbie who make hand thrown clay jewelry. For the quilt show she makes some of it with quilting motifs.
The quilt show is also today, so I don't know who won any ribbons yet. There were so many beautiful quilts- lots of inspiration!
Have a great weekend!

Finished Friday

Here is a small wall hanging I finished for my bathroom:
I need to put a hanging sleeve on it still. It is a pattern by Debbie Mumm and was a lot of fun to make! Our quilt show starts today and I'll be working there this morning. Hopefully I'll post some pictures tomorrow.

Aprons

I love vintage pillow cases! I look for them at yard sales and thrift stores whenever I can. I love to see all the detail that others put into the embroidery and crocheted edgings- always so beautiful. I use them for as long as I can, but eventually they will rip or become discolored since they are already old and loved before I get them. But usually the edging decoration is still intact- so what to do with that?
I make aprons!
Half aprons with the vintage edging for the ruffle.
I can't imagine all the work this took to make. That's alot of love put into a pillowcase!

Isn't this beautiful? Whenever I get to use one of these pillow cases on my pillows, it makes me happy! Then when they become aprons I either sell them or give them for gifts for others to enjoy.
Have a Happy Thursday!
