Another bathing beauty- the last of summer. I like this stencil because it is easy to work with and looks cool. I scraped pink on the page and dabbed yellow and orange with the stencil. Then I attached the beauty and used my perma pen to doodle the birds. I also like to use a charcoal pencil around my images.
This page started with scraping left over paint from other pages, pressing a stencil's leftover pain, etc. The image is from Terri at Pringle Hill Studio- love it! I also stenciled one flower and a little extra punchnella for some added color. This picture makes me smile :)
Have a great weekend all!

More pages and stencil experiment

On this page I tried a LOT of layers of pain and stencils to see what would happen- I like it :)
The picture is my Grandma and Dad put on with some Tim Holtz tape- it worked better this time.
This is another stencil experiment:
This is Julie Balzer's Ava stencil- she makes it look so easy... I need to practice.
I do like parts of it, but the eyes didn't turn out well and her neck looks too long to me. Oh well- I'll try again. I did like how the shading turned out and that is my first time trying that.
Have a great Thursday!

ICAW #10 and pages

ICAW #10

Isn't that a funny little stamp of the bird?- I got that in one of my envelope swaps.
Have a creative Wednesday!

stencil experiment

One of the techniques Julie Balzer demonstrated was using acrylic paint as a resist with watercolors. So I tried it
This is a crafters workshop stencil, and it did resist, BUT
my paper was not watercolor paper so when I added water all it did was start to disintegrate and the colors muddied...sigh. So I set about to try to fix the page.
Not great but better. I used my trusty punchnella and dabbed away. As everyone says, not every page will be one you love, but you can always learn something.

Isn't this picture funny? Another image from a Smithsonian magazine. I hope to have some more stencil experiment pages up soon. Have a great Monday!

SOO Excited!

I got some new stencils from Scrapbookers.com and I was so excited to try them out I had to show you at least one.
This is one of Julie Balzer's stencils and I LOVE it! I just used black to see what it was like, but I know there are tons of other things to try too- can't wait!

On this pg I scraped paint leftover from other pgs- then I used the 12x12 flower stencil from crafters workshop. The image and the ticket are from a swap with the gypsy angel- Kim.
This pg also has some stuff from Kim- lots of fun!

A couple of journal pages- I'm getting close to finishing this journal.
On this pg I tried some of the Tim Holtz tape- it didn't seem to stick well on paint, bit I like how it looks.
The tape seemed to do better on this pg for some reason. Aren't those tamps cute? I go them at Walmart for $1 each! Tomorrow is the first official day of Fall and I LOVE the cooler weather! I can't wait for the leaves to turn color- our town has lots of maples and they look beautiful this time of year.
Have a great day!

ICAW #9 and some more pgs

ICAW #9
I just added a few things to my stenciled pg.
And here is another bathing beauty- I used punchnella and tried to make it look like bubbles. I love these girls! Time for me to check out my stencil class- Happy Wednesday!

stencil 101 experiments and more

I'm really enjoying Julie Balzer's stenciling class. Here are a few of my experiments,
This is a crafters workshop stencil and I used distress stain with the blending tool. It turned out pretty cool, but there is more I want to do to the pg.
This is a tag I did with the molding paste- I LOVE the texture, but have to figure out hoe to get more color on it. Then these are some more journal pages:
On this pg I stenciled with punchnella then scraped paint. The image is from a magazine- I added the flower in her hair :)
This page had some stencil residue under the paint and the asst stencils on top. The image is from a reminsance magazine and I added the flower. The stamp says "smile big", but didn't stamp too well...
Well, that's it for today- have a good one!

more pgs

I just LOVE this stencil! I used different colors of acrylic paint through the stencil, then sponged a bit more atound the edges to finish it off.

This pg is a little weird I think. Of course I scraped paint first. Then I dribbled som black ink and blew on it so it would run. Then I dribbled some plum color wash spray ink and blew on it. After it all dried I decided to stencil some bright flowers in yellow acrylic. You can see though that where the paint is on the color wash ink it bleeds through. I like the way it turned out, but it was unexpected. I'm taking Julie Balzer's stencil class. Haven't actually been able to start yet- I'm hoping to feel well enough today to start. I'm really enjoying using stencils- there's tons you can do with them!
Happy Monday!

I'm back kind of...

Here are a few pgs I did before my health crisis
On this one I painted acrylic first the stenciled a bunch of things, then sprayed over another stencil.

On this pg I painted first then stenciled ART. Then I stamped with a kind od wave stamp I got at a yard sale. When that was all dry, I outlined the ART with my perma ball pen, the used puffy orange paint on the waves and green glitter paint on the waves. Fun new things for me.
Here is the cover of another composition journal. I had lots of fun just adding color and using all kinds of stencil things.
That's all for today. I thank everyone for all th kind commnets on my health. I am finally home from the hospital after an emergency from my previous gal bladder surgery- pretty tramatic for all of us here. I feel pretty weak as this my first day home, but I did actually do some art! With my daughter's supervision :) Have a great weekend!

Recovering ICAW

Thank you for the kind comments. I'm doing okay- very sore and the meds make me sleep a LOT!
Here is another ICAW I did before my surgery- it's very comforting to know God is always watching over me :)

Surgery update

Hi, everyone! This is Hannah, Shawn's daughter. Just wanted to let all of you know that her gall bladder surgery went well and she is home recovering now! Thank you for all your kind thoughts! We are so grateful to the Lord for bringing her safely through!

More pages

This one I made especially as a reminder to myself. Tomorrow I have gall bladder surgery and I've never had surgery before. Sooo...I'm a little anxious- okay more than a little :)
The strips of writing on the page all remind me that God is in control and I can trust Him.
I probably won't be posting for a few days, but I hope to be back soon.
I sent off my mystery envelope swap #5 to Kim@ the gypsyangel. And I'm hoping to do some journal pages today  to take my mind off things. I hope you all have a good rest of the week- see you soon!

Another bathing beauty with a little map of Venice- never been there , but I would like to go someday... The st amp I got for a quarter at a yard sale! Love it when I find treasures :)

On this page I collaged first, then stenciled and the scraped yellow and orange paint. Then I added an image from a magazine. I tried to color in the cat with chalk and then distress ink, but... It's okay, but the cat looks kind of mad.
This is my youngest daughter Hannah and she is 23 years old today. Yes I know I'm "old".
This is something I made her for her birthday.
She loves pink and brown and she picked out the image. I used a composition notebook, a piece of music, magazine image, stencil and distress ink aroung the edges of the music. She really likes it.
Happy birthday Hannah!
And speaking of birthdays, today is also my grandson Kenny's birthday and he is 4!
Happy birthday Kenny!
Have a great Tuesday everyone :)

ICAW #7 and journal page

Here is my newesr ICAW. I scraped acrylic paint on background and layed punchenella on top and started sponging different colors through it. When I took off the stencil I thought it kind of looked like flowers so I stamped the word bloom. Very fun :)
Isn't this a funny picture? I got the image from a Smithsonian magazine. Okay this one has lots of layers, even though you can't really see them all. First on the plain white page I stamped a bunch of random stamps I was trying out. Then I scraped paint on top of that. Then I too a lg paper doily and sponged white acrylic paint though it- a little tricky since the paper is so thin and stcks to the sponge.
Then I tried the picture on it , but it didn't show up enough, so I tore a page from an old dictionary with the word pelican on it and glued that down. Then glued the pelican- I really like this page!
Although when I looked at it from afar, it kind of looks like snow... Maybe next time I'll do a winter picture :)
I hope you have a happy Monday!

Happy weekend!

I'm doing the art journal every day again, but somehow I managed to delete all my buttons on the side bar!!! :(
Here's some more pages:
This one has an image from a magazine and the butterfly is a wall sticker from the dollar store. I still love scraping acrylic paint on the page first!
This another image fro a magazine, but I used watercolor crayon on her dress and colored in her lips with a felt pen. The stamp I got at Walmart for 97 cents. Always love a bargain :)
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

trying new things

Here is my first try at painting words- actually turned out better than I thought. Julie at Balzers Designs does this a lot so I thought I'd try. I also used some of the scrap pieces of waxed paper that I use between my pages when I paint- I just tore strips and tore a heart shape. A different look but interesting- added a little stenciling too- I'm really enjoying using stencils lately.
Only one page to show today- still need to take pictures of some others. Off for some yard saling with my daughter. Happy Friday!

Thursday, September 1, 2011

I'm having fun trying a lot of different techniques in this journal. On this pg I used a lot of different stencils and colors of paint. Then I used a tag type stencil with gesso for a journaling spot. Also stuck on some mulberry paper.

On this page I started out scraping on paint then stamped. After all was dry I stenciled with the crafters workshop stencil and acrylic paint kind of randomly, I like the way it turned out :)
I need to go get ready for a doc appt with a surgeon today :(
Have a great day!
