Feeling Plaid

Someone I know had on a cute flannel shirt in yellow, white, black, gray, and turquoise plaid. I liked the colors so much I thought I'd use them on a journal page.
Of course it is also a leftover page so the stamping is under the yellow paint.
This is the stencil I used to make the plaid- a leftover from scrapbooking days.
You'll see more of this on other pages as a leftover. After I used each color of paint, instead of cleaning the stencil I just turn a few pages, put the stencil in and then press the pages together. Most of the paint comes off on that page and I can switch to another color. Saves me time and doesn't waste paint! Plus I have a start to another page in the future.
Hope you all have a great weekend!

Recent work

Hey all! Haven't done a whole lot of art this past week... But here a some of what I have done.
This is a page in progress. I tried out scraping paint through a stencil. It give a really cool texture, but uses a lot more paint. Still it makes the page "touchable". The yellow I scraped through punchnella reminded me of fish scales so I drew a fish around them!
I'm also starting to explore painting/collage on canvas. Here is a WIP
We'll see how this progresses. Right now this is titled "Under the Sea". This is an 11x14" flat canvas. I also bought these 16x20" regular canvas.
I want to do a boldly colored abstract for my bedroom. And this is one of the sewing projects I've made for my beautiful granddaughter>
Isn't she cute?! Hope you all have a great week!

New page

At last another page done! The pictures are some relatives of mine from long ago. The page is of course filled with leftovers in the background and I got a new stencil at a thrift store- can you see it? It's an egyptian head. Anyway it was fun to work on this in spurts.
I won't be posting again until after Christmas because I am SOOO behind in the gift making dept and I need to get done!!!!! So have a Merry Christmas and I will be reading your blogs as I have time.

New page!

I finally finished a page in my art journal- it feels great to be dabbling with paint again!

This page has the most layers I've ever done. First it's a leftover page, then I glued all kinds of paper images down- words, pictures, tickets, music. Then I stenciled- when that was all dry, I painted over everything with yellow. I wanted to use a light color so the layers with words would show through. Then I stenciled on top of everything with bright pink and added the girls image and a stamp my sister sent my daughter when she was in Germany ( there were 2 so she gave me one). Lots of fun and everything from my stash :) I hope your day is going great!

A stencil and a stamp

I got ambitious yesterday and made a stamp and a stencil!
This is the stencil- I just used hole punches of different sizes. You can see the square didn't turn out too well, but I still like it. Here is a page stenciled with it:
The plastic I used was hard to punch through, so I think I need to look for some thinner- it was just some plastic I had in my studio. Next I "carved" a stamp for fun and maybe a challenge. I'm sorry I can't remember where I saw this idea, but I do remember it was on youtube.
It's made from craft foam. You draw your design on paper, then put your paper over the craft foam and trace it, pushing firmly into the foam. Then you stick it to a block of wood or another piece of thicker foam and stamp! I haven't used it on a page yet, but do have plans!
Have a terrific Tuesday!

Here it is!

I finished this yesterday, I was so excited to use this fabric! It's a very simple pattern I made, so it didn't take long. I still might fill in a few places with some more stencils, but for now I like the way it looks. I do think white would have made the colors pop more, but that's for the next one :)
Here's a journal page I finished too
Very simple, but  fun! Hope you all are having a great week!

stencil 101 experiments and more

I'm really enjoying Julie Balzer's stenciling class. Here are a few of my experiments,
This is a crafters workshop stencil and I used distress stain with the blending tool. It turned out pretty cool, but there is more I want to do to the pg.
This is a tag I did with the molding paste- I LOVE the texture, but have to figure out hoe to get more color on it. Then these are some more journal pages:
On this pg I stenciled with punchnella then scraped paint. The image is from a magazine- I added the flower in her hair :)
This page had some stencil residue under the paint and the asst stencils on top. The image is from a reminsance magazine and I added the flower. The stamp says "smile big", but didn't stamp too well...
Well, that's it for today- have a good one!

notebook fun

This is a regular composition notebook I got for 25 cents at Walmart. I needed something for taking notes at church so I decided to make it me.
I gessoed the cover first and let it dry. Then I started scraping on paint- the weird thing was when I scraped on the paint the gesso started to scrape off! So I ended up finger painting on the blue to cover up the blank spots- I ended up liking how it looks :)
The letters are stickers and the brackets are just a random stencil I have.
This is another page from the art journal I'm working on.
This page uses another crafters workshop stencil, tim holtz sticker and a random stamp. The image is actually me in kindergarten or 1st grade. I just copied the photo on my printer. Of course I had to put a flower in my hair :)
Well, it off to yard sale- have a great day!

Here's a couple more pgs
This is another stencil I got from the art goodes shop The image is from graphics fairy and the little word thing is from my goodies from Amy.
And this is my ICAW #5
I used gesso for the circle and squeezy paint for the heart cheeks. Then I tried out my punchenella with paint. And the stamp is one I got at a thrift store for $1.
We went to the county fair today with the grandkiddies and had a lot of fun, but came home HOT and tired.

The bathing beauties are from digitalcollages.com- they're so cute!
I stenciled the sun in a glitter paint- maybe you can see better in the next pic
I guess I went too far into the purple so the sun doesn't show up as well as I'd like..
I'm having a lot of fun with this journal- I glued 2 pages together throughout the whole book. You can kind of see the pages are a little bubbly, but they still work. I also didn't gesso the pages first since I liked the feel of the paper.
The weather has cooled off some here and it makes me want to work in the studio more. I sent off my mystery envelope swap to my partner for this time Amy@papertrailsleaver. Can't wait to get my envelope! Any swaps or challenges that you all enjoy?

New journal pgs

I really need a camera of my own... Anyway here are some new pgs I've worked on.
I've kind of decided to put some kind of vintage image on each page-s ort of a starter point.
I used some really old mulberry paper on this one- I mean like 15 years old!
These pages aren't finished of course, but for now I'm concentrating on painting the pages and putting the starting image- a new way of working for me. I still haven't sewn my journal together :( It's on my to do list. I haven't had as much time to art journal lately since we're getting ready for our yard sale this weekend. I hope the weather is good :)
